titleOfInvention Process for the removal of straight chain hydrocarbons, wholly or in part, from hydrocarbon fractions, with the production of yeast
abstract A process for the removal of straight chain hydrocarbons or waxes from petroleum fractions, with the production of yeast, comprises the steps of continuously cultivating in a fermenter a yeast, adapted to grow on the straight chain hydrocarbon or wax, in the presence of the petroleum fraction, having a mean molecular weight corresponding to at least 10 carbon atoms/molecule, a gas containing free oxygen, and an aqueous nutrient medium, and continuously separating from the mixture a yeast fraction, an aqueous fraction, and a petroleum fraction, wherein a part of the mixture or the yeast fraction is heated to autolyse the yeast and returned to the fermenter. The nutrient medium may contain group B vitamins, biotin, and extract of yeast, and preferably has a pH of 4-5. Suitable yeasts include Cryptococcoidae, Cryptococcoaccae, Torulopsis, and Candida.ALSO:A process for the removal of straight chain hydrocarbons or waxes from petroleum fractions, with the production of yeast, comprises the steps of continuously cultivating in a fermenter a yeast, adapted to grow on the straight chain hydrocarbon or wax, in the presence of the petroleum fraction, having a mean molecular weight corresponding to at least 10 carbon atoms/molecule, a gas containing free oxygen, and an aqueous nutrient medium, and continuously separating from the mixture a yeast fraction, an aqueous fraction, and a petroleum fraction, wherein a part of the mixture or the yeast fraction is heated to autolyse the yeast and returned to the fermenter.
