titleOfInvention Process for the removal of straight chain hydrocarbons, wholly or in part, from hydrocarbon fractions, with the production of yeast
abstract A process for the removal wholly or in part of straight-chain hydrocarbons or waxes from a petroleum fraction, with production of yeast, comprises the steps of continuously cultivating in a fermenter a strain of yeast adapted to grow on straight chain paraffinic hydrocarbons or waxes, in the presence of an aqueous nutrient medium and oxygen, and continuously separating, for example by centrifuging, from the mixture a fraction (a) comprising yeast, a fraction (b) comprising the major part of the aqueous phase, and a fraction (c) comprising the modified petroleum fraction, and recycling the fraction (b). Suitable yeasts include Cryptococcoaccae, Cryptococcoidae, Torulopsis, and Candida. The nutrient medium may contain group B vitamins and biotin, and preferably has a pH of 4-5.ALSO:A process for the removal wholly or in part of straight chain hydrocarbons or waxes from a petroleum fraction, with production of yeast, comprises the steps of continuously cultivating in a fermenter a strain of yeast adapted to grow on straight chain paraffinic hydrocarbons or waxes, in the presence of an aqueous nutrient medium and oxygen, and continuously separating, for example by centrifuging, from the mixture a fraction (a) comprising yeast, a fraction (b) comprising the major part of the aqueous phase, and a fraction (c) comprising the modified petroleum fraction, and recycling the fraction (b).
