titleOfInvention Improvements relating to amines
abstract A process for the production of a bis-cyclohexylamine <FORM:1019929/C2/1> or <FORM:1019929/C2/2> where R is methylene, isopropylidene, ethylidene, beta - butylidene, beta - pentylidene, gamma - pentylidene, cyclopentylidene, cyclohexylidene or hexahydrobenzylidene comprises reacting in the liquid phase one molecular proportion of a diol of formula <FORM:1019929/C2/3> or <FORM:1019929/C2/4> with at least two molecular proportions of ammonia at an elevated temperature under at least the autogenous pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. Catalysts specified include nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium ruthenium and various ruthenium compounds. The diol may be made by catalytic hydrogenation of the corresponding bis-phenol. Examples are furnished.
