titleOfInvention | Method of preparing barbituric acid derivatives |
abstract | A method of preparing a barbituric acid derivative, comprising the step of condensing thiourea with a malonic ester in an inert material solvent and in the presence of a condensing agent at a temperature not exceeding 30 DEG C. until a thiobarbituric acid results, the said malonic ester having the formula <FORM:1018990/C2/1> wherein R is (a) R1.R2.N.A-, wherein R1 is alkyl and R2 is alkyl and A is an unsubstituted or methyl substituted alkylene radical having 2 or 3 chain members; or (b) <FORM:1018990/C2/2> wherein <FORM:1018990/C2/3> is a heterocyclic group containing at least 5 ring atoms and A is as above, or (c) R3-(CH2)n, where n is 1 or 2 and R3 is 2-pyridyl or N-methyl -2-piperidinyl; X is hydrogen or at least one halogen alkyl or alkoxy substituent provided that when R is a dimethylamino group free from substitution by methyl in the alpha position of the alkyl group X is not hydrogen; and alkoxy and alkyl groups contain from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. |
