titleOfInvention Stabilization of chlorofluoroalkanes
abstract Aerosols and solvent mixtures containing chlorofluoroalkanes and primary or secondary alcohols are stabilized by incorporating 0.1-5% by wt. of the haloalkane of a -methylstyrene, dipentene, anethole, indene, a dimethyl hexadiene, piperylene, p-mentha-1,5-diene, m-diisopropenyl benzene, 1,3,5-triisopropenyl benzene, 1-(p-methoxyphenyl)-2-nitro-1-propene or 1-methoxy-1,3-butadiene. The alcohols include alkanols, glycols, and sorbitol, and the haloalkanes trichlorofluoromethane, and mixtures of trichlorotrifluoro- and tetrachlorodifluoroethanes.ALSO:Mixtures of polyols with chlorofluoroalkane blowing agents, used for making polyurethane foams, are stabilized by incorporating 0.1-5% by weight of the haloalkane of a -methylstyrene, dipentene, anethole, indene, a dimethyl hexadiene, piperylene, p-mentha-1,5-diene, m - diisopropenylbenzene, 1,3,5 - triisopropenyl benzene, 1 - (p - methoxyphenyl) - 2-nitro - 1 - propene or 1 - methoxy - 1,3-butadiene. The polyols may be primary and secondary non-amine type, e.g. reaction products of ethylene and/or propylene oxide with sucrose, pentaerythritol, sorbitol, trimethylol propane and methyl glucoside, or amine-based, e.g. tetrakis - (2 - hydroxypropyl) - ethylene diamine, and reaction products of ethylene and/or propylene oxide with diethylene triamine.ALSO:Chlorofluoroalkanes are stabilized against reaction with primary and secondary alcohols by incorporating 0.1-5% by weight of a -methyl styrene, dipentene, anethole, indene, a dimethyl hexadiene, piperylene, p-metha-1,5-diene, m-diisopropenylbenzene, 1,3,5 - triisopropenylbenzene, 1 - (p - methoxyphenyl) - 2 - nitro - 1 - propene or 1 - methoxy - 1,3 - butadiene. Stabilized aerosols and solvent compositions containing trichlorofluoromethane, and mixtures of trichlorotrifluoro- and tetrachloro-difluoto-ethanes and alcohols, and mixtures of chlorofluoroalkane blowing agents with polyols, used for making polyurethane foams, are exemplified.
