titleOfInvention New guanidine derivatives and process for preparing the same
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1018450/C2/1> (wherein Ar is a phenyl group optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms or C1-3 alkyl groups and B is an alkylene group containing 2, 3 or 4 chain carbon atoms) and acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their preparation by reacting an amine of the formula Ar-S-B-NH2 with an isothiouronium salt having in its free base form the formula <FORM:1018450/C2/2> (wherein Alk is a C1-3 alkyl group), optionally followed by conversion of the resulting acid addition salt to the corresponding free base or a different acid addition salt. The amine starting materials are prepared by standard methods. The compounds of the invention block the peripheral sympathetic nervous system and may be administered orally or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets, lozenges, capsules or suspensions) containing them in association with a carrier.
