abstract Curable compositions comprise a resin containing more than one oxetan group, a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof and a compound containing uranium in the +6 oxidation. Oxetan resins specified are 3-alkyloxetan-3-ylmethyl ethers and esters of polyhydric phenols or polycarboxylic acids and 2,6-dioxaspiro(3,3)heptane and its reaction products with dicarboxylic acids, which still contain oxetan groups. Many polycarboxylic acids and anhydrides are specified. The preferred uranium compounds are uranyl salts of organic and inorganic acids and their complexes with water, ammonia, amines and amides, and uranyl chelates and their addition compounds. Optional additives are solvents such as trialkyl phosphates for the uranium compounds, reactive diluents such as 3-hydroxymethyl-3-alkyloxetans, additional accelerators such as p-toluenesulphonic acid, fillers, asphalt and bitumen. The compositions are useful as textile auxiliaries, laminating resins, varnishes, lacquers, dipping resins, casting resins, encapsulating, coating, filling and packing materials, moulding compositions and adhesives.
