titleOfInvention Safety explosive
abstract A safety blasting explosive free from fibrous cellulosic material comprises 7-12% by weight of a self-explosive sensitizing ingredient, an oxidizing salt, a flame-quenching salt, and a metal formate as the fuel. The power of the composition is 30-45% by weight Blasting Gelatine. The sensitizing ingredient may be nitroglycerine, nitroglycol, or a nitrotoluene. Suitable metal formates are those of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Ba, and Pb. Other specified ingredients are ammonium nitrate, sodium or ammonium chloride, sodium nitrate, nitrocellulose, guar gum, and calcium stearate. When using the composition in cartridges, the risk of deflagration is reduced when two cartridges are separated by a gap filled with coal dust.
