titleOfInvention | Preparing amino alkanethiols |
abstract | Amino-alkane-thiols are prepared by reacting primary or secondary amines with 2-hydroxy-ethyl thiolcarbonate esters or 2-mercaptoethyl carbonate esters or with acyl, carbalkoxy, carbaryloxy or carbamido derivatives of the carbonates. Preferably the carbonates are those having the formula ROCOACH2CH2B(Q) (wherein one of A and B is O and the other is S, R is C1- 8 alkyl, phenyl, C1- 4 alkyl-phenyl, or aralkyl and Q is H,-COR,-CO2R.-CONHR or -CONR2) or their derivatives having a hydroxymethyl group or an alkyl group of 1, 2, 4, 5 or 8 carbon atoms as a substituent in the 2-position. The amine is preferably a mono- or di-C1- 10 alkylamine, a mono- or di-alkenylamine, an arylamine, a hydroxyalkylamine or a cyclic secondary amine, e.g. piperidine, 4-methylpiperidine, morpholine, piperazine or 4-methylpiperazine, but also referred to are polyamines, polyimines, amino-acids, polypeptides, proteins, amino sugars, deacylated chitin and gelatin. Preferably the reactants are dissolved in a suitable solvent and heated to reflux. A molar excess of amine may be employed, and the reaction is preferably effected at 125 DEG to 150 DEG C. at a pressure of from 500 to 1500 p.s.i. |
