titleOfInvention Improvements in the treatment of nylon yarns
abstract A lubricating composition suitable for the treatment of nylon yarns comprises a lowmelting ester lubricant which is a natural or synthetic glyceryl ester of melting point below 25 DEG C. containing no strongly polar group such as a hydroxyl, amino or carboxyl group, e.g. coconut oil, glyceryl triacetate and glyceryl trioleate, and, dispersed in the lubricant, the esterified product of a 4 : 1 mixture of oleic and lauric acids with the condensation product of sorbitol with at least 30 mols. of ethylene oxide, the esterified product having a free hydroxyl number of 95 to 110 and the weight ratio of the lubricant to the esterified product being between 90 : 10 and 97 : 3.ALSO:Nylon continuous filament yarns to be used in the production of tyres are treated with 1-3% by weight of a finish composition comprising a low melting ester lubricant which is a natural or synthetic glyceryl ester of melting point below 25 DEG C. containing no strangly polar group such as a hydroxyl, amino or carboxyl group, e.g. coconut oil, glyceryl triacetate and glyceryl trioleate, and, dispersed in the lubricant, the esterified product of a 4:1 mixture of oleic and lauric acids with the condensation product of sorbitol with at least 30 mols of ethylene oxide, the esterified product having a free hydroxyl number of 95 to 110 and the weight ratio of the lubricant to the esterified product being between 90 : 10 and 97 : 3. The treated yarns may be processed to cord structures and subjected to a latex dip to apply 1-7% by weight of solids thereto, dried and stretched. The latex dip may be an aqueous mixture of a resorcinolformaldehyde resin and a copolymer comprising butadiene and vinyl pyridine.
