titleOfInvention Synthetic detergent compositions
abstract A liquid heavy-duty detergent concentrate consists of (i) 10-20% of the sodium salt of a n-C12- 20 sulphonic acid wherein the sulpho group is attached to a secondary carbon atom, (ii) 25-40% of either tetrapotassium pyrophosphate or potassium tripolyphosphate as sequestering agent, (iii) 5-10% of a hydrotrope common to (i) and (ii), and (iv) the balance water, all percentages being by weight of the total composition. The preferred hydrotope (iii) is sodium xylene monosulphonate, others disclosed being sodium toluene sulphonate ethanol, urea, and the sodium salts of pentyl, hexyl and heptyl monosulphonic acids. The surfactant (i) is preferably a C14-C18 sodium sulphonate. A preferred detergent contains 15% of the surfactant (i) and 35% of the sequestering agent (ii). To form a high-sudsing detergent 0.5-2% long-chain tertiary amine oxide, particularly lauryldimethyl amine oxide, may be added to the liquid detergent composition (i)-(iv) above. Optional additives are metal corrosion inhibitors, e.g. sodium silicate in an amount 2-5% and anti-soil redeposition agents, e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose in an amount up to 2%.
