titleOfInvention Substituted cyclobutanones and process for their preparation thereof
abstract Polymeric materials such as poly-(vinyl chloride), cellulose acetate butyrate or cellulose propionate are plasticized by incorporating a compound of formula <FORM:1009214/C3/1> wherein R1 and R2 are saturated hydrocarbyl radicals or form a spiro C5 or C6 saturated carbocyclic ring, R3 is a hydrocarbyl radical free from acetylenic unsaturation and having at least 4 carbon atoms, n is 0-4 and R1, R2 and R3 total at least C8. In examples, the use of 3 - (2 - ethylhexyloxy) - 2,2 - dimethylcyclobutanone is specified.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1009214/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 are saturated hydrocarbyl radicals or form a spiro C5 or C6 saturated carbocyclic ring, R3 is a hydrocarbyl radical free from acetylenic unsaturation and having at least 4 carbon atoms, n is 0-4 and R1, R2 and R3 total at least C8. Compounds of the above formula, including the wider group in which there is no minimum number of carbon atoms in R3 or in R1+R2+R3 are prepared by reacting at 20-150 DEG C. the appropriate ketene R1R2C = C = O and ether R3O-CH = CH(Cn H2n)H.
