titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to substituted imidazolidinones |
abstract | The invention comprises 4,5-dialkenyloxy-2-imidazolidinones of formula <FORM:1009015/C2/1> where R is an alkenyl radical having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, and their preparation by heating 4,5 - dihydroxy - 2 - midazolidinone with an unsaturated aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a solid inorganic salt as a dehydrating agent. Dehydrating agents specified are anhydrous zinc chloride, anhydrous copper sulphate, dried copper sulphate monohydrate, anhydrous magnesium sulphate and anhydrous calcium sulphate. The compounds of the invention depress the central nervous system, having sedative, tranquillizing, hypnotic and anticonvulsant activity, and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in combination with a carrier, e.g. in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration, such as tablets, coated tablets, granules, solutions or suspensions. |
