titleOfInvention | Improvements in and relating to the casting of metals and alloys |
abstract | 1,007,944. Casting processes. SPARTAN STEEL & ALLOYS Ltd. Aug. 28, 1964 [Sept. 4, 1963], No. 34965/63. Heading B3F. In a method of casting e.g. stainless steel, there is spread on the exposed surface of the melt, at or immediately after commencement of entry of the metal into the mould, a dry powdered flux containing a proportion of fluorspar, the said proportion being selected, having regard to the metal being cast and the teeming speed, to ensure values of viscosity and surface tension of the flux when it melts which will operate against rapid shedding of the flux and thus maintain a protective film over the exposed surface of the melt. When the casting is completed a fresh quantity of flux or exothermic powder or both, may be added. |
