titleOfInvention Amine oxide detergent
abstract A detergent composition which may be in the form of a liquid, flakes, granules, toilet bars or a scouring cleanser comprises an amine oxide of the formula R1R2R3N-->O wherein R1 represents 2-hydroxyalkyl, 3-hydroxyalkyl or 3-alkoxy-2-hydroxypropyl in which the alkyl and alkoxy radicals contain from 10 to 18 carbon atoms, and R2 and R3 represent methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl radicals, in admixture with Na, K, ammonium and alkylolammonium salts of C10- 20 fatty acids, alkyl glyceryl ether sulphates, alkyl sulphates, alkyl monoglyceride sulphates and sulphonates, alkyl polyethenoxy ether sulphates, acyl sarcosinates, acyl esters of isethionates, acyl N-methyl taurides, alkylbenzene sulphonates, alkylphenolpolyethenoxy sulphonates, polyethylene oxide condensates of alkyl phenols, alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium carbonates, borates, phosphates, pyrophosphates, polyphosphates, carbonates, bicarbonates, sesquicarbonates, sulphates and silicates, sodium, potassium, ammonium and triethanolamine ethylenediaminetetraacetates, nitrilotriacetates, N-(2-hydroxyethyl) nitrilodiacetates, hydroxyethyl-ethylene-aminetriacetates, 2 - hydroxyethyl - iminodiacetates, diethylenetriaminepentaacetates and 1,2 - diaminocyclohexanetetraacetates, sodium phytate, silica flour and/or glyceryl tristearate. Specifications 437,566, 802,325 and 870,456 are referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises amine oxides of the formula R1R2R3N-->O wherein R1 represents 2 - hydroxyalkyl, 3 - hydroxyalkyl or 3 - alkoxy - 2 - hydroxypropyl in which the alkyl and alkoxy radicals contain from 10 to 18 carbon atoms, and R2 and R3 represent methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl radicals. The above compounds are prepared by oxidizing the corresponding amines, e.g. using hydrogen peroxide. N,N - Dimethyl - 3 - dodecoxy - 2 - hydroxypropylamine and N,N - dimethyl - 2 - hydroxydodecylamine are prepared by reacting dimethylamine with dodecyl glycidyl ether and a C12 alpha-olefin oxide respectively. 3 - Ketododecyl - dimethylamine is prepared by reacting 2-undecanone with paraformaldehyde and dimethylamine hydrochloride. Dimethyl - 3 - hydroxydodecylamine is prepared by lithium aluminium hydride reduction of 3-ketododecyl-dimethylamine. Specifications 437,566, 802,325 and 870,456 are referred to.
