titleOfInvention | Organosiloxane-polyether-urethanes |
abstract | A siloxane-polyether-urethane copolymer is made by reacting (1) at least 0.01 part (by wt.) of a siloxane of the formula <FORM:1006784/C3/1> wherein each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon (saturated or unsaturated) or halohydrocarbon radical, each R1 and each R11 is an alkylene radical of at least 2 C atoms, a is a positive integer, m has an average value from greater than 0 to 1, n has a value from 0 to less than 3 and the sum m+n has an average value from 1 to 3, (2) at least 5 pts. of a hydroxylated polyether, the combined weights of (1) and (2) being 100 pts., and (3) an organic or organosilicon poly-isocyanate. Organosilicon compounds (1) are described in Specification 802,467; alternatively some of the compounds may be made by reacting <FORM:1006784/C3/2> with an alkylene oxide at 70 DEG to 150 DEG C. in the presence of H2SO4, SnCl4 or AlCl3. If desired, the reaction may be (i) catalysed by organic amines and/or organo-metallic salts, and (ii) carried out in suitable solvents. Fillers, e.g. cork, wood flour, glass, powdered metals, metal oxides and carbonates, silica, asbestos, P.T.F.E. and C-black, and foaming agents, e.g. water, carbon dioxide and fluorocarbons, may also be added. In a typical Example (1) toluene diisocyanate was added to an aqueous emulsion obtained by stirring together a polyether of the formula <FORM:1006784/C3/3> a polysiloxane having terminal ether radicals, triethylene diamine, water and, as surfactant, a siloxane having terminal polyoxyalkylene radicals, and the resulting mixture was allowed to foam and cure. Uses.-For shock mounts and rubber tyres. Specifications 875,109, 971,682 and 1,006,783 are referred to. |
