titleOfInvention Mold or core blowing machine
abstract 1,006,328. Moulding-machines. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. June 28, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 24887/62. Heading B3F. A method of making sand moulds or cores comprises blowing heat-curable sand mix from a reservoir into a closed core or mould box clamped in position beneath the reservoir, laterally displacing the reservoir with respect to the box to reduce the heat transferred to the reservoir, simultaneously moving a sand mixheating means into a heating position and heating the mix in the box while the box remains closed. The double-chambered blow head 35 and the punch-out and curing head 36 are linked at 37 for movement together on rollers 32 by means of cylinders 38, between a position in which the blowhead is above the top C of the core box and the drag portion supported in a cradle 185, and a position in which the blowhead is beneath the reservoirs 48, 49 and the curing head is above the filled box. The box parts and blowhead are clamped for blowing against the blowplate 64 by cylinders 22, 23, and on the downward unclamping movement of the piston rods thereof, cam grooves 207 constrain the cradle 185 to turn through 180 degrees to invert the drag and deposit the cores on a conveyer with the assistance of ejection pistoncylinder units 218, 219, mounted on the cradle. An ejector cylinder 81 on the punch-out head 36 moves the head frame 86 downwardly to cause pins 101 to ensure that the cores leave the box top portion C. The box-portions, the punch-out head and the cradle incorporate gas burners for curing the mix, and the sand reservoirs and a blowhead are water-jacketed to prevent premature setting of the sand in them. Exhaust valves 60 are mounted above the blowheads, and the air inlet openings 230, Fig. 5, are offset therefrom. Mould materials.-The sand binder may be urea formaldehyde modified with furfural alcohol, and an acid catalyst such as muriotic, oxolic or phosphoric acid, ferric chloride or ammonium phosphate. Specification 941,286 is referred to.
