titleOfInvention Curing of polyvinyl halides
abstract Compositions comprise a vinyl halide resin and as curing agent therefor 0.25 to 6% by weight of the resin of 2,21-azobisisobutyronitrile or p,p1-oxybis-(benzene sulphonyl hydrazide). Specified resins are polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl bromide and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinyl butyrate, vinyl acetobutyrate, vinyl hexoate, vinylidene chloride, vinyl ethers, vinyl ketones, itaconic esters and acrylic compounds. The compositions may also comprise plasticizers, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, dibutyl sebacate and di - (2 - ethylhexyl) azelate; stabilizers, e.g. lead oxides and lead carbonate; and fillers, e.g. carbon black, barytes, zinc oxide, clay and wood flour. The compositions may be moulded or applied to electrical conductors and cured by heating. Examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, dibasic lead stearate, lead carbonate and (1) 2,21-azobisisobutyronitrile and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and (2) p,p1-oxybis-(benzene sulphonyl hydrazide) and tricresyl phosphate. Specifications 548,094 and 865,184 are referred to.
