titleOfInvention Method of manufacturing polyvinyl alcohol fibres
abstract Aqueous spinning solutions of polyvinyl alcohol comprise one or more of thiourea, cyclic ethylene urea or thiourea, cyclic propylene urea or thiourea and triazone or the water-soluble hydroxy-, alkyl- or aryl-derivatives thereof other than condensation products with formaldehyde. The additive is preferably used in amount of 0-05 to 5.0% by weight of the polyvinyl alcohol. A conventional surface-active agent, e.g. sodium dodecylbenzenesulphonate may also be present. Specified additives are thiourea, cyclic ethylene thiourea and urea, cyclic propylene thiourea and urea, triazone, 1,3-dimethylimidazolidone-2, 4-methylimidazolidone2, 4,5-dimethylimidazolidone-2, 2,21-thio-di2 - imidazolidone, 1,3 - dimethylimidazolidine2 - thion, 1 - phenyl - thioimidazolidone - 2, 4,5 - dioxyimidazolidone - 2, N - dimethylthiourea and 5-ethyl triazone. The compositions may be wet spun into coagulating baths of aqueous sodium or ammonium sulphate or dry spun into hot air, and the fibres stretched and heat set.
