titleOfInvention | Method of manufacturing polyvinyl alcohol fibres |
abstract | Aqueous spinning solutions of polyvinyl alcohol comprise one or more of thiourea, cyclic ethylene urea or thiourea, cyclic propylene urea or thiourea and triazone or the water-soluble hydroxy-, alkyl- or aryl-derivatives thereof other than condensation products with formaldehyde. The additive is preferably used in amount of 0-05 to 5.0% by weight of the polyvinyl alcohol. A conventional surface-active agent, e.g. sodium dodecylbenzenesulphonate may also be present. Specified additives are thiourea, cyclic ethylene thiourea and urea, cyclic propylene thiourea and urea, triazone, 1,3-dimethylimidazolidone-2, 4-methylimidazolidone2, 4,5-dimethylimidazolidone-2, 2,21-thio-di2 - imidazolidone, 1,3 - dimethylimidazolidine2 - thion, 1 - phenyl - thioimidazolidone - 2, 4,5 - dioxyimidazolidone - 2, N - dimethylthiourea and 5-ethyl triazone. The compositions may be wet spun into coagulating baths of aqueous sodium or ammonium sulphate or dry spun into hot air, and the fibres stretched and heat set. |
