titleOfInvention Solid olefine polymer compositions
abstract A polyolefin is stabilized with a composition comprising, (a) a phenolic compound with an ortho-substituent attached thereto by a C or N atom (1) to which is attached an O or N atom, (2) linked within the molecule by a double bond, said substituent having an aromatic residue attached to (1) or (2); (b) a sulphur compound selected from certain alkylidene or aralkylidene mercaptals, mercaptols, polymeric mercaptals or polymeric mercaptols, orthothioesters and orthothiocarbonates; and optionally (c) a phenolic antioxidant such as a condensate of an alkyl phenol with an unsaturated aldehyde or ketone. Preferred stabilizer components are: (a) 2 - hydroxy - 4 - alkoxy benzophenones, aromatic esters of hydroxy aromatic acids and 2-(21-hydroxyaryl) benzotriazoles, (b) reaction products of hexamethylene dithiol with 2-nonanone or of cetyl mercaptan with nonaldehyde, and (c) a condensate of 3 mols. of 3-Me-6-t-Bu-phenol with 1 mol. of crotonaldehyde.
