abstract | The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:1001822/C2/1> wherein each of R1, R2 and R3 is hydrogen or alkyl (1-4 C), and R4 and R5 are alkyl (1-4 C) or -NR4R5 signifies morpholino or piperidino, with the proviso that, when two of R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, R4 together with the remaining substituent R1, R2 and R3 may represent alkylene (2-4 C) (but excluding 1-dimethyl-amino-3-homothiaxanthylidene-(41) - propane); and their acid addition salts; and their preparation by treating a corresponding 4-substituted-4-hydroxy -homothiaxanthene with a dehydrating agent. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds I and their acid addition salts with inert carriers. The compounds inhibit biogenic amines and have neuroplegic and antidepressant activities. Specifications 1,001,823 and 1,001,825 also are referred to. |
