| abstract | Valerolactam, oenantholactam and dodecyllactam are prepared by reacting the corresponding cycloalkane carboxylic acid and/or a derivative thereof with a nitrosation agent in the presence of sulphuric acid. Sulphur trioxide may also be present. Derivatives which may be used are the salts, esters and anhydrides of the acids or the cycloalkane carbohalogenides, carbonamides and carbonitriles.
