abstract The present invention relates to a method and a device for estimating an air speed of a rotorcraft (10) by analyzing its rotor (11). Said rotorcraft comprises a fuselage and a main rotor (11) provided with a plurality of blades (14) and rotating about an axis (A1) of a hub (13) of the rotor (11) and whose end ( 142) free of each blade (14) describes a trajectory close to a plane of the disc (TPP). Said method makes it possible to determine said air speed of said rotorcraft (10) in a reference frame (X, Y, Z) integral with said plane of the disc (TPP) by solving a model of said rotor (11) relating an angle () of not at least one blade (14) with respect to said plane of the disc (TPP) with said air speed of said rotorcraft (10) and with an auxiliary speed. Said auxiliary speed may be an induced speed of the air passing through said rotor (11) or an axial speed relative to the air at infinity upstream of said rotorcraft (10). Short figure: figure 1
