abstract The present invention relates to a process for liquefying a methane-based fuel gas, which comprises a pre-cooling and liquefying phase, wherein the fuel gas is cooled and liquefied between the ambient temperature T0 and a temperature T2 at least as lower than the bubble temperature of the gas by heat exchange with a main stream of refrigerant mixture circulating against the current of the gas in a first heat exchanger, and a subcooling phase where the liquefied gas is sub-cooled from the temperature T2 until at a subcooling temperature T3, by heat exchange with an initially liquid and circulating nitrogen gas stream, in a third open circuit, countercurrent to the fuel gas stream. The present invention also relates to a liquefaction plant for implementing the method according to the invention.
