abstract The invention relates to a method for determining the direction of an object in an image. It comprises a "field baptism" phase with: - acquisition by circular scanning by means of a first determined position imaging device, a series of partially overlapping scene images, - automatic extraction of descriptors defined by their image coordinates and their radiometric characteristics, with at least one unknown direction descriptor in each image overlap, - automatic estimation of the rotation of the images and mapping of the descriptors of the overlays, - identification in the images, of at least a known directional reference and determination of the image coordinates of each reference, - estimation of the attitude of each image and the position of the first imaging device, - calculation of the absolute directions of the descriptors, a phase of operation in line with: Acquiring at least one current image of the object from a second positional imaging device; iné, - Extraction of descriptors in each current image, - Matching descriptors of each current image with the descriptors whose absolute direction was calculated during the "baptismal field" phase, to determine the absolute direction of the descriptors of each image current, - estimation of the attitude of each current image, - calculation of the absolute direction of the object according to a predetermined model of shooting of each current image.
