titleOfInvention | ENCAPSULATED NUCLEAR FUEL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME |
abstract | The invention relates to an encapsulated nuclear fuel comprising: a pellet of a nuclear fuel capable of producing heat by radioactive decay; a first metal casing serving to protect against gamma radiation emitted by the radioactive decay of the nuclear fuel, this first envelope delimiting a closed cavity in which the pellet is housed; and a second envelope of ceramic matrix composite material serving as mechanical protection for the first envelope. The second envelope comprises modules which, in an assembled configuration, jointly define a closed cavity in which the first envelope is housed, each module comprising two ends connected by a lateral wall extending around an axis of the module passing through the two ends, at least one of the two ends being a connection end defining an opening and allowing the mechanical connection of the module with the connection end of another module, these two connection ends overlapping each other to form a covering zone extending laterally around the axis of the modules and forming respectively a male element and a female element. |
