The present invention provides an Aurora A protein kinase having a mutation of the active site, making it sensitive to a specific inhibitor, which inhibitor has no effect on the unmutated wild Aurora A protein. This mutated Aurora A protein kinase, retaining the properties of wild-type Aurora A protein kinase, is an effective control indicator for wild Aurora A protein allowing the study of its cellular functions and the effects associated with kinase inhibitors. |
