abstract |
The invention relates to a novel process for producing methionine without using hydrogen cyanide as raw material. A process for producing methionine comprises a step A of oxidation of 4-methylthio-2-oxo-1-butanal in the presence of an alcohol; a step B of 4-methylthio-2-oxo-butanoic acid ester hydrolysis obtained in step A; and a step C of subjecting 4-methylthio-2-oxo-butanoic acid obtained in step B to reductive amination. |
