The undercarriage structural element, in particular an axle support (1) of motor vehicles, has a metal section (6, 7) comprising at least one region (B1) with material properties modified with respect to the properties of the original material of said metal section (6, 7). According to the invention, said region (B1) is subjected to an electron beam treatment increasing its ductility. This treatment makes it possible to adjust the collision behavior of said axle support (1), preferably consisting of a high-strength aluminum, the precise structural organization of the regions (B1) providing a controlled collision behavior. |
