abstract A method of monitoring a flow rate of gas consumed by a patient, said gas being conveyed by a piping system from a cryogenic tank comprising at least one bath of said gas stored in liquid form, said bath having a certain volume corresponding to a certain height , characterized in that it comprises at least the following steps: a) At several times during a pre-determined period of time, said height is measured with a relative accuracy of at least one ten thousandths (1/10000) for obtain a series H of height measurements; and b) values from the series H obtained in step a) are used to calculate a series D of quantities of said gas comparable to flow rates, corresponding to volume variations of said bath during said predetermined period.
