titleOfInvention METHOD OF THERMALLY PROTECTING SCINTILLATION CRYSTAL IN A SCINTILLATION DETECTOR
abstract The invention relates to a method for thermally protecting a scintillation crystal (36) of a scintillation detector (22). In one example, a thermally protected scintillator may include a scintillation crystal and a thermal shield element, which may partially surround the scintillation crystal. The thermal protection element may be configured to prevent the scintillation crystal from experiencing a temperature change rate sufficient to cause it to crack or uneven light output, or a combination of both.
