abstract The invention relates to a device and a method for calculating the longitudinal speed of a vehicle. The device comprises: - a conversion device (10), converting the angle of the accelerator pedal ap into a set speed vf *, - a subtractor device (11), which calculates the speed difference between the speed of the accelerator pedal set point vf * and the instantaneous reference speed v *, - a non-invariant multiplier device (12) acting on this speed difference, - a saturation device (13), which delivers a force F * to be applied to the vehicle, - a integrating device (14) which makes it possible to calculate the setpoint speed v * = integral (F *) / m, where m is the mass of the vehicle.
