abstract The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I): R- (CH2) 2-O-A-O- (CH2) 2 -R, wherein A represents a divalent radical selected from: and R represents -CN or -CH2NH2. To prepare them, reaction is carried out by Michael, acrylonitrile on a compound of formula (II): HO-A-OH, wherein A is as defined above, to obtain a compound of formula (I) wherein R represents -CN, and the hydrogenation of the latter is carried out to obtain the corresponding compound of formula (I) in which R represents -CH2NH2. A compound of formula (I) in which R represents -CH 2 NH 2 as a polar head in a surfactant, or as a monomer of a condensation polymerization, in particular in the manufacture of polyamides, or as crosslinking agent, is used.
