abstract The present invention relates to a process for producing aluminum hydroxycarbonate, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: a) dissolving sodium bicarbonate in water to obtain a solution whose pH is between 8 and 9, b) adding to the solution obtained in step a, a solution of sodium aluminate, c) addition, simultaneous with the addition of step b), in the solution obtained at step a), a solution of alumina sulphate, the pH of the mixture thus obtained being maintained at a value of 8.0 +/- 0.1 until the end of the precipitation of sodium hydroxycarbonate. It also relates to said process characterized in that it further comprises a step d), at the end of precipitation, during which the pH of the mixture is lowered to 5.8. The invention also relates to an aluminum hydroxycarbonate obtained by said process characterized in that its sodium ion content is less than 1.3%, that it presents itself in the form of a slurry whose viscosity is between 20 and 30 cP, that the molar ratio CO2 / Al2O3 is 0.2.
