titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DIMETHYL ISOSORBIDE
abstract The subject of the present invention is a process for the preparation of a dimethyl isosorbide (DMI) composition by etherification of an isosorbide composition with methyl chloride, characterized in that it contains at least one introduction stage. of a dimethylisosorbide (DMI) composition in the reaction medium. The step of introducing the DMI composition into the reaction medium advantageously begins at the moment when the reaction medium has a water content of less than 18%, preferably less than 15% and more preferably still less than 12%, expressed by weight of water relative to the total weight of the reaction medium. The method according to the invention makes it possible to obtain high yields of DMI, high levels of methyl and a limited co-production of salts, for example sodium chloride.
