abstract A simplified process for the manufacture of 1,2-dichloroethane from a hydrocarbon source wherein: a) the hydrocarbon source is subjected to cracking producing a mixture of gases containing ethylene and other constituents; the mixture of gases into a light fraction containing part of the ethylene (fraction A), into a fraction enriched in ethylene (fraction B) and, optionally, a heavy fraction (fraction C); in a chlorination reactor and fraction B in an oxychlorination reactor, reactors in which most of the ethylene present in fractions A and B is converted to 1,2-dichloroethane; -dichloroethane obtained product streams from chlorination reactors and oxychlorination.
