The present invention relates to a microorganism strain producing 2-amino-4- (alkylmercapto) butyric acid of general formula (I) RS- (CH2) 2 -CHNH2-COOH (I) wherein R represents a linear alkyl radical or branched group comprising from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, optionally substituted by one or a hydroxy group, or an aryl or heteroaryl radical comprising one or more nitrogen or sulfur atoms in the heteroaromatic ring, selected from phenyl, pyridyl and pyrolyl groups , pyrazolyl, triazolyl, tetrazolyl, thiazolyl, or thienyl, by metabolism of a single carbon source and a source of sulfur comprising a compound of general formula (II): R'-SH (II) wherein R 'represents a hydrogen atom or R, R being defined above, and its physiologically acceptable salts, said strain comprising at least one gene coding for an enzyme with "methionine synthase" modified activity. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of amino acids of general formula (I). |
