abstract | The present invention relates to a process for producing alkanes comprising contacting at least one initial alkane with a metal catalyst containing at least one metal, Me, bonded to at least one hydrogen atom and / or at least one a hydrocarbon radical. The process is characterized in that during the manufacture of alkanes the catalyst is contacted with hydrogen. The invention also relates to a method of activating a catalyst as described above and intended for the manufacture of alkanes, which process is characterized in that during manufacture comprising bringing the catalyst into contact with at least one initial alkane the catalyst is contacted with hydrogen. Hydrogen can be used together with an agent "in situ" hydrogen.
