titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF DIHYDROXYMALONIC ACID AND ITS DIBASIC SALTS
abstract According to the invention, dihydroxymalonic acid is obtained in 2 steps from a diester of malonic acid. In a first step, a diester of malonic acid is reacted with nitrous acid to form the corresponding diester of isonitrosomalonic acid, which is then reacted, in a second step, with formol. By adding a base to the reaction medium, the corresponding dibasic salt can then be precipitated and then isolated from the dihydroxymalonic acid. can then be regenerated by treatment of the dibasic salt with an acidic ion exchange resin. This gives, simply and economically, with a good yield, a dihydroxymalonic acid of very high purity, directly usable as an intermediate for the synthesis of drugs or in industry. reprocessing of radioactive waste.
