titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR HYDROGENATION OF UNSATURATED BLOCK COPOLYMERS AND HYDROGEN BLOCK COPOLYMERS |
abstract | For selectively hydrogenating the olefinic double bonds of block copolymers at least one block of which contains olefinic double bonds using a catalyst based on a group VIII metal in a medium comprising an organic solvent for the copolymer and a ionic liquid as the catalyst solvent, an ionic liquid immiscible with water is used, preferably an ionic liquid, the anion of which is the hexafluorophosphate anion and the cation is the cation 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium (bmim + ) or 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium (emim +). Applied to poly (styrene) -b-poly (butadiene) -b-poly (methyl methacrylate) block copolymers, the poly (butadiene) block predominantly has a -1, 4 microstructure, this process leads to copolymers in which the degree of hydrogenation is at least equal to 50% and which have a melting point greater than 30 ° C. |
