abstract The nuclear fuel material consists of at least one bed (11) of particles (1 ') of substantially spherical shape having a diameter of between 0.5 and 5 mm. The fuel assembly holding structure (10) comprises a prismatic-shaped housing (8) and at least one basket (9) disposed inside the housing (8) and enclosing at least one bed (11) of nuclear fuel particles. The end fittings (12, 13) of the housing are each traversed by at least one water passage opening, the basket or baskets comprising porous walls crossed by openings of a dimension smaller than the diameter of the fuel particles ( 1 ') and arranged so that the bed or beds of fuel particles (11) are crossed by cooling water from the nuclear reactor entering the housing (8) of the fuel assembly through the first end piece. end (12) and exiting the fuel assembly through the second end cap (13).
