abstract The present invention relates to a water-soluble algal extract having an ultraviolet filtering effect and comprising amino acids analogous to mycosporin called MAAs.These water-soluble extracts made from thalli of red macroalgae have a thermostable and photostable UV filtering activity. They protect DNA against the genotoxic effects of ultraviolet radiation and show no genotoxicity.Applications in cosmetics, dermopharmacy, including dermatology and pharmacy.
