Composition containing a modified hyaluronan consisting essentially of hyaluronic acid, optionally crosslinked, in which a proportion of not more than 50% of the carboxylic groups are in the form of aliphatic or arylaliphatic esters, the aliphatic or arylaliphatic group of which contains at least 10 carbon atoms. Such modified hyaluronans, when the esterification rate is sufficiently low, are soluble in aqueous media and can then form viscous solutions or hydrogels which can be used in particular in pharmacy and in surgery, in particular in the form of implants. When the esterification rate is higher, the modified, insoluble hyaluronans can be used in particular in the form of microspheres or massive implants. |
