titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OF QUATERNARY AMMONIUM UNSATURATED SALTS
abstract This method of manufacturing aqueous solutions of unsaturated quaternary ammonium salts of formula (I) by reacting, in the presence of water, N, N-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate (ADAME) with a quaternizing agent of formula (II) , is characterized by the fact that (a) in a closed reactor which contains 5 - 60% of the weight quantity of ADAME necessary for the reaction and which has been pressurized by air or depleted air to 0 , 5 to 3 bars, the reaction is carried out by continuously introducing, at a temperature of 35 to 65degreC, on the one hand, the quaternizing agent (II) and, on the other hand, water, and finally, l 'ADAME remaining, until the desired concentration of salt (I) in the water is obtained, the start of the introduction of the water starting when 0 - 30% of the necessary weight has been added to the reaction of the quaternizing agent (II); the start of the introduction of the remaining ADAME beginning when 20 - 80% of the quantity by weight necessary for the reaction of the quaternizing agent (II) has been added; and the pressure at the end of the reaction being able to reach 9 bars; then (b) the reactor is depressurized while maintaining the constant oxygen content by simultaneous introduction of air and, after returning to atmospheric pressure, the residual quaternizing agent is removed. (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) R = methyl or benzyl.
