abstract | The invention relates to a process for preparing a rubbery polymer, in particular polybutadiene rubber having a high vinyl content. The process comprises the polymerization of at least one monomeric diene, for example in an inert organic solvent such as hexane, at a temperature between about 5degreC and about 100degreC in the presence of an initiator system consisting of a lithium initiator. such as n-butyllithium, a metal salt of cyclic alcohol such as sodium mentholate and a polar modifier such as N, N, N ', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine in specified ratios. The metal salts of cyclic alcohols used have the advantage of not contaminating a recycle hexane stream. It also relates to said initiator system. |
