abstract The invention relates to the characterization of a porous permeable object. It implements the following steps: - placing the object (2) in a sealed envelope (4), - depressurizing the envelope (4) containing said object (2), - measuring the pressure residual prevailing in the envelope (4) put under vacuum, - introduction of a quantity of polarized gas in the envelope (4) put under vacuum, - measurement of the pressure prevailing in the envelope (4) following the introduction of said quantity of polarized gas, - determination of the density of the polarized gas introduced into the casing (4) from said pressure measurements, - measurement by NMR of the mass quantity of polarized gas contained in a known volume of the object (2) placed in the sealed envelope (4), - determination of the porosity of the object (2) by calculating the mass quantity of polarized gas / density ratio of the polarized gas introduced into the envelope (4).
