abstract |
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of optionally substituted and derived p-hydroxymandelic compounds. It relates more particularly to the preparation of p-hydroxymandelic acid and of 3-methoxy acid p-hydroxymandelic and derivatives. The subject of the invention is a process for the preparation of optionally substituted phydroxymandelic compounds and derivatives which consists in carrying out the condensation in water, in the presence of an alkaline agent, of an aromatic compound carrying at least one hydroxyl group and whose position in para is free, with glyoxylic acid, said process being characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of a compound carrying at least two carboxylic functions. |
