abstract |
The invention relates to composite pyrotechnic compositions generating non-toxic gases. The compositions according to the invention consist essentially of a crosslinkable reducing binder based on epoxy resin or silicone resin, an oxidizing filler based on ammonium perchlorate and a chlorine sensor such as sodium nitrate and by energy additives consisting on the one hand by a cupric compound such as cupric oxide or basic copper nitrate and on the other hand by a nitrogenous organic compound such as, for example, nitroguanidine or guanidinium nitrate. The oxidizing charge may also contain potassium perchlorate. The compositions according to the invention burn at moderate temperatures by generating gases rich in nitrogen and deficient in nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. They are well suited as pyrotechnic charges of gas generators intended to inflate protective cushions for occupants of a motor vehicle. |
