abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a high pressure hyperpolarized helium gas implementing an optical pumping step at a resonant wavelength close to 1083 nanometers in a helium gas formed by the isotope pure helium-3 or a mixture of helium-3 and helium-4 isotopes characterized in that said helium gas is subjected to a magnetic field of 0.01 to 1 Tesla during the optical pumping step, and maintained at a pressure greater than 10 mbar.
