titleOfInvention | METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LASER ISOTOPIC SEPARATION OF LEAD ISOTOPE 210 |
abstract | A process and an isotopically selective laser device for removing the Pb-210 isotope from natural lead, involving a quasi-resonant one-photon, two-photon resonant excitation of one or more Rydberg levels, followed by field ionization and electrostatic extraction. The wavelength for the quasi-resonant intermediate state is counter-propagated with respect to the second wavelength required to populate the final Rydberg state. This device exploits the large cross section of the first excited state and requires only low laser fluences. The non-resonant process eliminates two problems: first, the stimulated Raman gain resulting from the proximity of the hyperfine component F = 3/2 of the isotope Pb-207 and, second, the direct absorption of the first transition light. by the isotope Pb-207. |
